. . .an exchange of letters between Warren Small (author of the
Sun Outage Program) and myself:
FROM me TO Warren:
Hi Warren:
I recently got a copy of a program, SUNOUT, apparently written or
at least adapted by you. I have Version 3.32, dated May 1988,
and the MS-DOS EXE filesize is 69876 bytes.
It's pretty good! Accurate, too, judging by my experience in the
early part of March of this year. I didn't get a copy of the
program until after the spring interval.
I work for a TV station, WGN Television in Chicago. This issue
comes up every spring and fall. Until we got a copy of your
program, nobody seemed to have 'the full story' on anything, so
as you can imagine your program is valuable to us!
A couple of questions, if I may. . .
1. Is this a reasonably current version? It works OK, so I'm not
looking for any improvements or anything.
2. Is this shareware? Are we expected to pony up something if we
intend to use it? There is nothing in the DOC file included that
suggests this.
3. Is this shareware? Can I post this for others? I'm the Sysop
for a BBS operated by our local union, IBEW Local 1220, and if
there is no objection I'd like to make this available to others.
If there's a shareware information file that's supposed to be
included please let me know what's to be included.
I got a floppy disk from somebody, who got it from somebody else.
You know how that happens. It's a good thing you had your name
and address in the DOC file, or I wouldn't even be writing this
note!!!
Thanks for you consideration.

Subject: Satellite Sun Outage Program
Robert,
Thank you for your kind comments about SUNOUT. What you have is the current
version, if you consider 1988 current. There haven't been any updates since
then anyway. I work at a radio station in Manchester, NH and have been using
it myself since then. I have found it to be reasonably accurate for our
purposes although I wish I had time to at least update the user interface...
The program is not shareware. It was uploaded to the Broadcasters
Professional Forum on CompuServe for anyone to use as they see fit. If you
want to put it on your BBS, go right ahead. Naturally, you should make sure
that you keep the program and doc file together in an archive file. If you
have an overwhelming desire to give me money, I won't refuse it, but it is
not expected.
Thanks again.
